![]() The latest game in the series, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, was released in 2011 and quickly became a fan favorite and an award-winner. ![]() Originally intended to be a fantasy combat game, the role-playing and story elements quickly took precedent over the action, giving way to one of the most original and complex mythologies in all of video game history. Set in the magical world of Tamriel, The Elder Scrolls series first premiered on personal computers in 1994 with the game Arena. While publisher Bethesda Game Studios confirmed that production has started on the game, any details as to the story, its precise setting and even its title have been kept firmly under wraps. We'll keep you posted.A recent trademark filing may indicate that the title of the long awaited sixth game in the popular Elder Scrolls series is Redfall. Of course it's all speculation at this point, although we do wonder if Bethesda will do what they did with Skyrim and release a proper trailer with the name at the Game Awards in December. "Redguard" and "Hammerfell" certainly seem too close to "Redfall" to ignore. It's possible a new nation called Redfall has arisen since then. Before the events of Skyrim, the Redguard had seceded from the Empire, became independent, and fought off an invasion by the Aldmeri Dominion. It may have something to do with the Redguard, the dark-skinned desert warriors of Hammerfell. ![]() Since Elder Scrolls VI would probably be set long after Skyrim, there could very well be a new location founded then. ![]() There is no location called "Redfall" in the Elder Scrolls world. The only games that aren't locations are very clear English words - Arena and Oblivion (and even those are based on specific places). The majority of Elder Scrolls games are named after locations in the world - Daggerfall, Morrowind, Skyrim, or the recent Elder Scrolls Online expansions of Summerset and Murkmire. It certainly sounds extremely Elder Scrolls-like and would be a fitting title for The Elder Scrolls VI, but there's a catch. First spotted by Newsweek, Bethesda just trademarked the name 'Redfall' for "computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles". ![]()
